Common questions about our coaching process
Executive Coaching is a structured, one-to-one developmental partnership in which a trained coach helps a senior leader clarify goals, surface hidden assumptions and build new capabilities. Unlike mentoring, the coach does not advise from personal experience in your industry; instead, they ask powerful questions that help you discover your own solutions. Unlike consulting, coaching does not deliver a report or a strategy deck — it builds the leader's own capacity to think, decide and act more effectively. The result is sustainable growth rather than a one-off recommendation.
Our clients range from first-time directors stepping into board-level roles to seasoned chief executives preparing for a major strategic pivot. We also work with high-potential managers identified by their organisations as future leaders. Coaching is most effective when the individual is motivated to grow, open to feedback and willing to experiment with new behaviours. It is not a remedial intervention — it is an investment in someone who is already performing well and wants to reach the next level.
Most engagements run between six and twelve months, with sessions held every two weeks. This cadence allows enough time between sessions for the coachee to practise new approaches and reflect on what is working. For specific transitions — such as the first ninety days in a new role — we offer an intensive three-month programme with weekly sessions. We always agree the duration upfront during the scoping conversation, and we build in a formal mid-point review to check progress and adjust if needed.
Each session lasts sixty to ninety minutes, either face-to-face or via secure video call. The coachee typically brings a real, current challenge — a difficult stakeholder relationship, a strategic decision, a team dynamic — and the coach uses a blend of inquiry, frameworks and reflective exercises to help the coachee think it through more deeply. Sessions are not scripted; they follow the coachee's agenda. Between sessions, the coachee may complete short observation tasks or journaling exercises to deepen the learning.
Absolutely. Confidentiality is the foundation of a productive coaching relationship. We establish a clear confidentiality agreement at the start of every engagement. If the organisation is sponsoring the coaching, we agree upfront what high-level themes (not specific content) will be shared with the sponsor — and the coachee always has final say over what is communicated. The only exception is where there is a legal or safeguarding obligation to disclose information, which we explain transparently before coaching begins.
Fees depend on the scope, duration and seniority of the engagement. A standard six-month programme with fortnightly sessions typically falls between £6,000 and £12,000 plus VAT. Team workshops and intensive transition programmes are priced separately. We are always transparent about fees during the initial scoping call, and we offer flexible payment schedules for individuals funding their own coaching. We believe in demonstrating value early, which is why the initial chemistry session is always complimentary.
All Execmotive coaches are credentialed by the International Coaching Federation at PCC or MCC level. They also hold postgraduate qualifications in coaching psychology, organisational development or related fields. Beyond credentials, every coach on our team has at least ten years of experience working with senior leaders across multiple sectors. We invest in ongoing supervision and continuing professional development to ensure our practice stays current and evidence-based.
Yes. We offer sessions via secure video conferencing, by phone or face-to-face at a location convenient to you. Many of our clients prefer a blend — perhaps meeting in person for the first session and the mid-point review, with video calls in between. Remote coaching has proven equally effective in research studies, and it offers greater scheduling flexibility for leaders with demanding travel commitments. We use an encrypted, GDPR-compliant platform for all virtual sessions.
Understanding our approach
Evidence-based methodology
Our coaching draws on cognitive-behavioural coaching, positive psychology and adult development theory. We do not follow a single rigid model; instead, we select the tools and frameworks that best fit the coachee's learning style and development goals. Common instruments include 360-degree feedback, the Hogan suite of assessments and strengths-based profiling. Every tool is introduced with a clear rationale, and the coachee always retains ownership of their data. We continually review the research literature to ensure our methods reflect the latest thinking in leadership science.
Measuring impact
We take measurement seriously because we know organisations need to see a return on their investment. At the start of each engagement we establish two to four development goals using a goal-attainment scaling framework. We then capture baseline data — often through a short stakeholder survey — and repeat the survey at the mid-point and end of the programme. This gives both the coachee and the sponsor a clear, quantified picture of progress. In addition, many clients report improvements in team engagement scores, decision-making speed and personal well-being that they attribute directly to the coaching process.
Ethical standards
We adhere to the ICF Code of Ethics and the European Mentoring and Coaching Council Global Code of Ethics. This means we maintain clear boundaries, avoid conflicts of interest and ensure that coaching serves the coachee's genuine development — not the coach's agenda. If at any point we believe the coachee would be better served by therapy, mentoring or a different coach, we will say so openly and facilitate an appropriate referral.
Getting started
The process begins with a free, no-obligation discovery call lasting around thirty minutes. During this call we will learn about your context, discuss what you hope to achieve and answer any remaining questions. If we agree there is a good fit, we will propose a coach match and arrange a chemistry session — a trial conversation that lets you experience the coaching dynamic before committing. There is no pressure and no hard sell. Many clients tell us they knew within the first ten minutes of the chemistry session that they had found the right partner.
